Hoʻokipa Ambassador

Greets and welcomes visitors and guests as they enter. Gives an overview of the historic sites, artifacts, and botanical resources in the Valley. Answers questions. Encourages visitors to consider the cultural walks and tours. Expresses appreciation to visitors and guests as they leave.   

Position requirements:  

1. Greets and welcomes visitors and guests as they enter.  

2. Greets student groups and tour groups as appropriate.  

3. Shares a map of Waimea Valley and several key points of interest.  

4. Talks about activities in the Valley each day.  

5. Encourages visitors to consider the cultural and botanical walks and tours, and the hula show (during Summer).  

6. For guests who want more information, shares details about the historic sites, artifacts, and botanical resources in the Valley. 7. Encourages purchase of Souvenir Book when appropriate.  

8. Shares information about shuttles.  

9. For kama’aina, talks about kama’aina admission discounts, annual passes, morning walker program, volunteer opportunities, and adopt-a-garden.  

10. Promotes events that are coming up.  

11. Able to respond to inquiries and/or discuss Hawaiian history, cultural practices, myths, and legends.  

12. Assists the Marketing & Events Department by monitoring the condition of signage and making suggestions for signage, exhibits, and self-guided interpretive material for all ages.  


Education Requirements:  

1. As a minimum, a high school diploma is required. A degree (associate or four-year) in hospitality, Hawaiian Studies, or a related field is desirable.  

2. At least two years of relevant community or Hawaiian agency experience. 


Hi`ipaka LLC offers a competitive salary and has excellent benefits- medical, dental, vision, company-matched 401K program, and life insurance. This is a full-time position and regular attendance on a daily basis is required. Waimea Valley is a seven-day-a-week operation and some weekend work is required.
